Internship: Software Developer Intern

Sean is from Maplewood, Minnesota, and is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Augsburg University. Outside of school, he enjoys playing video games and has created an application called BrainScore, which uses daily games, challenges, and AI coaching to help train the brain.

What Resonated Most

Sean first learned about Design Ready Controls through his mom, and his interest continued to grow as he learned more about the company and the opportunity to develop as a Software Developer Intern. He was especially drawn to the impact Design Ready Controls makes in the community by helping people see manufacturing as a meaningful and rewarding career path. Sean also admired the company’s ambition to become the world’s best control panel manufacturer.

Coding for Efficiency

In his current role, Sean is working on a calibration manager app that helps keep company tools organized. The app makes it easier to track and manage tool calibrations for the various tools that the production team uses. Users can enter data for tool calibrations, view tool due dates in a printable PDF, and quickly identify tool status through color-coded indicators. Sean finds it rewarding to contribute to work that helps improve efficiency across the company.

A Spark for Software

Sean’s interest in software began at a young age after receiving his first laptop. He shared, “I’ve always thought software was really cool, being able to create shortcuts in my free time was what sparked my interest in the field.” He has also developed an interest in creating music on his laptop, explaining, “creating music is kind of like programming, except it is through sound not software.” Sean enjoys being able to combine creativity with technical problem-solving in both of these interests.

Support That Makes a Difference

Sean has valued the opportunity to learn from Software Development Supervisor Will Soligny during his internship. He shared, “Will has been really helpful in showing me the most efficient ways to get tasks done. I’ve learned a lot from him that will help me in the future.” Through that guidance, Sean has been able to strengthen his skills, build confidence in his work, and gain insight that will continue to support him as he grows in Software Development.

The Next Chapter

After his internship, Sean plans to finish his degree and continue building and improving apps. He is excited to keep exploring Software Development and see where his career path leads him next.
