Internship: Electrical Engineer Intern

Lachlan is from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and is currently studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he will be entering his sophomore year in the College of Engineering.

Drawn to a People-First Culture

Lachlan first learned about Design Ready Controls through his high school Engineering teacher and was drawn in by the company’s people-first culture. He shared that, “during the interviewing process, it was obvious right away how much they cared for their employees and even prospect employees.” That impression stood out to him right away and made Design Ready Controls feel like a supportive place to learn and grow.

The Value of Collaboration

One of the things Lachlan has enjoyed most is the collaborative environment. He values being able to communicate with coworkers and work through challenges together, explaining that “It is a lot easier when you’re able to communicate with others to figure things out, versus trying to on your own.” For him, that teamwork has made the internship experience especially meaningful.

Supporting the Bigger Picture

During his time with the team, Lachlan has been working in EPLAN, the software used to design control panels and generate quotes and reports. His project involves organizing and labeling placeholders for part numbers, which makes updates easier and helps improve efficiency across company processes.

A Strong Foundation in Electrical Engineering

Lachlan’s interest in Electrical Engineering began in high school through the electrical program that was offered. He is thankful for the solid foundation that experience provided and for how it has guided him to his current position. Lachlan has also appreciated working with Electrical Engineering Supervisor Yuxi Liu and the rest of the team, sharing that “the whole team has been very helpful and are always happy to answer all my questions.” He values being surrounded by people who are supportive and willing to help one another succeed.

What’s Next

Lachlan plans to continue pursuing his degree in Electrical Engineering while exploring the different areas of the field to discover what he enjoys most and where he wants to focus his career in the future.
