Intern Spotlight: Grayson Buckley

Grayson Buckley

School/Degree: Purdue University | Major in Mechanical Engineering

Grayson is from Victoria, Minnesota and is currently a sophomore at Purdue University in Indiana studying Mechanical Engineering. Outside of school and work, Grayson enjoys going to the gym to lift, play basketball, video games, and likes learning more about cool sports cars.

Drawn to Reputation and Technology

One of the main reasons Grayson chose to intern at Design Ready Controls is the company’s strong reputation in the industry. Grayson added, “I also knew someone who had worked here previously and spoke highly of their experience, which really boosted my confidence in joining the team. On top of that, I’ve heard from several former interns who had positive experiences, which made the opportunity even more appealing.” He appreciates the company’s size—”it’s big enough to offer exciting projects and resources, but still feels connected.” Plus, the emphasis on advanced technology at Design Ready Controls aligns perfectly with his interests and career goals, making it the ideal place to learn and grow.

Collaborative Culture at Design Ready Controls

When reflecting on the culture at Design Ready Controls, Grayson describes it as a very friendly and an open work environment. “Everyone is willing to help you and wants to get to know you better,” he shared. Grayson highlighted the conversational and collaborative atmosphere, especially enjoying the opportunity to work alongside other engineering teams. “They’re friendly and just want to collaborate to make a better product!” he added, emphasizing how teamwork is truly at the heart of Design Ready Controls culture.

People Make the Difference

So far, Grayson says his favorite part of his experience at Design Ready Controls is the people—especially the other interns. Sitting next to Stewart, Nick, and Sofia has created a fun and relatable community. He also values the mentorship he receives from members of the mechanical team and appreciates their genuine commitment to his growth, both professionally and personally.

Software Solutions for Engineers

Currently, Grayson’s favorite project involves developing software to streamline the design process for various parts. This tool will benefit all engineers by guiding them through each step of the process. He’s enjoyed working in SolidWorks and exploring different modeling techniques in DraftSight as part of this project.

Looking Forward

After this summer, Grayson will return to Purdue University as a sophomore, where he is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. With three more years of studies ahead, he hopes to eventually launch a career in the automotive or engine-related industry.
