Internship Area: Sales Development Representative Intern

Karver is from Blaine, Minnesota and will be starting his first year at University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management in the fall with a major in Business and Consumer Psychology. Outside of school and work, Karver enjoys being out on the lake, spending time on the boat, and learning more about the aviation industry. He is a founder of a non-profit called K Boys Kare and would love to start his own business one day.

Building Skills for the Future

Karver was excited about the opportunity to intern at Design Ready Controls for many reasons. First, he loves learning new things, so entering an industry he was previously unfamiliar with was very appealing. He shared, “You can always learn so much, no matter how much or how little knowledge you have.” Karver appreciates the chance to grow in a new field. Additionally, he was thrilled to lead sales Design Ready Controls’ newest division – metal fabrication, Design Ready Fabrication. Karver describes this as an amazing opportunity and is grateful to be learning the sales process, which he believes will set him up for future success in the business he hopes to start.

Karver’s Favorite Moments at Design Ready Controls

When asked about his favorite part of working at Design Ready Controls, many things came to Karver’s mind. He enjoys spending time with fellow interns at various events, such as the weekly Lunch & Learns—an opportunity to hear from leaders in different departments across the organization. Karver shared, “I have taken away so much from these sessions, it has been great meeting the leadership team and learning more about their team’s impact on the company vision, goals and success.” He also appreciates the company’s hands-on culture, saying, “We Actually Do It and get work done.” Finally, Karver values being exposed to all aspects of the business and the chance to connect and learn from leaders daily.

Feeling Prepared for his Future

This internship has prepared Karver in many ways for his future. His experience this summer has equipped him with the skills to find clients and solve their problems effectively. Being part of the sales development team has strengthened his abilities and fueled his hopes of becoming a successful entrepreneur.     

Karver’s Summer Focus: Finding Fun and Exciting Leads

This summer, Karver has been enjoying the challenge learning about the metal fabrication industry and finding customers that the team can partner with. He shared, “It has been awesome to meet new people, learn more about the different industries and opportunities for metal fabrication needs.” Some of the most interesting companies Karver has connected with include those in the dock and playground industries. He looks forward to continuing to explore and learn!

Looking Ahead

After this summer, Karver will be attending the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management as a first-year student. He is excited to get involved in a variety of clubs and activities. Additionally, he will continue with phase two of his non-profit and aims to connect with as many people as possible to learn and grow every day.
